Founded in 1997, Panthers F.C., a collaboration between the Sporting Star and South Adelaide Colts, swiftly rose to prominence in South Australian football. Originally playing at the Cove Sports Community Centre, this ambitious club carved a niche for itself, particularly noted for its intense rivalry with Noarlunga United. Under Coach Aldo Maricic, the Panthers transformed from an underdog in the SASF 2nd Division to a formidable mid-table team. The club is renowned for initiating the Tony Macentagert tournament in 2008, an event that fosters community spirit and honours their late president. A pivotal moment in their history came in 2013, when they gained promotion to the South Australian National Premier League, becoming the first team from southern Adelaide to enter this top division, a testament to their commitment and growth in the sport.
