West Adelaide Soccer Club, a prominent Australian soccer team, has its roots deeply embedded in Adelaide's Greek community. Established as Hellas, it swiftly rose to prominence, becoming a founding member of the National Soccer League in 1977 and clinching the national championship in 1978. The club enjoyed a long stint in the national league, spanning 19 seasons, with brief returns to state-level play. In the late 1990s, aiming to broaden its appeal, the club rebranded as the Adelaide Sharks, but financial struggles led to its withdrawal from the national league and bankruptcy by 1999. The club's juniors, however, continued independently. Resurrecting its senior teams in 2007, West Adelaide made a triumphant return to top-tier soccer, winning the South Australian championship in 2015 and reestablishing itself as a powerhouse in South Australian soccer.
